A Good Brief Saves Time, Money, and Frustration
The most common reason a workwear order doesn’t meet expectations isn’t production quality — it’s a poorly specified brief. When a customer says “we’d like our logo on some polo shirts in our company colour,” there are fifty ways that sentence can be interpreted. A thorough brief eliminates the guesswork and ensures that what gets delivered is exactly what was imagined.
Here’s how to write a workwear brief that leaves nothing to chance.
Essential Elements of a Strong Workwear Brief
1. Garment Type and Quantity
Be specific. Not “polo shirts” — “Polo shirts, 35 units, adult sizing mix as follows: S x5, M x10, L x12, XL x6, 2XL x2.” Include whether they’re for men, women, or a mixed team. If you need a unisex garment, say so explicitly.
2. Your Logo Files
Attach your logo in the highest quality format you have. Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) are best. High-resolution PNGs (at least 300dpi) are acceptable. Share your brand guidelines if you have them — including Pantone codes, minimum clear space requirements, and any restrictions on colour usage.
3. Placement and Size
Specify where you want the logo (left chest, back, sleeve) and approximately how wide you’d like it to be. If you have a reference garment or a competitor’s uniform you like, a photograph is worth more than words.
4. Customisation Method Preference
Embroidery or print? If you’re not sure, say so — we’ll recommend the best method for your logo and garment combination. Embroidered workwear is generally the right choice for professional uniforms; print is better for promotional items and event garments.
5. Timeline and Budget
When do you need delivery? Is there a hard deadline (a staff launch date, an event, a season start)? What’s your approximate budget per head or total? Being transparent about budget means we can recommend the best garments within your range, rather than defaulting to either the cheapest or most expensive options.
