How to Choose the Right Workwear Supplier: 7 Questions to Ask Before You Order

·2 min read

Your Workwear Supplier Reflects on Your Business

When your team shows up in their uniforms, they’re representing your brand. That means the quality of your workwear reflects directly on your professionalism. Choosing the right supplier — one who understands quality, delivers on time, and communicates clearly — is just as important as choosing the right garment.

Here are the seven questions we recommend every business asks before placing a workwear order with any supplier, including us.

Question 1: Do You Offer a Pre-Production Sample?

Any reputable workwear supplier will offer a sample garment with your embroidery applied before the full order begins. This protects you from discovering problems after 50 garments have been produced. If a supplier won’t provide a sample, that’s a serious warning sign.

Question 2: What Are Your Actual Lead Times?

Not the marketing copy lead time — the real average. Ask for their standard production window from artwork approval to despatch, and ask what happens to your order if there’s a production delay. A supplier who over-promises on lead times will create operational headaches for your business.

Question 3: How Do You Handle Artwork and Digitising?

Who reviews your logo for embroidery suitability? Who does the digitising? Is it done in-house or outsourced? In-house digitising means faster turnaround and more control over quality. Outsourced digitising introduces an additional link in the chain where things can go wrong.

Question 4: What Happens If There’s a Problem With My Order?

Production errors happen in every industry. The question is how they’re resolved. A supplier who replaces faulty garments promptly and without argument is worth their price premium over a supplier who fights every issue.

Question 5: Can You Handle Reorders Consistently?

Your uniform programme isn’t a one-off purchase — it’s an ongoing relationship. Can the supplier guarantee that a reorder in 12 months will exactly match your original order in colour, garment, and embroidery? Colour and garment discontinuation is a real issue — confirm availability and how long your spec will be maintained.

Question 6: Do You Have References or Reviews?

Real customer testimonials from businesses in similar industries to yours are a good trust signal. Check Google Reviews, Trustpilot, or ask directly for customer references you can contact.

Question 7: Is There a Real Person I Can Talk To?

Email ticketing systems and AI chatbots have their place, but workwear orders often involve nuanced decisions that benefit from a real conversation. A supplier with a dedicated account manager who answers the phone is worth significantly more than a faceless online ordering portal.
