In Security, What You Wear Is Part of What You Sell
A security services company operating across the North of England had won a significant new contract with a shopping centre management group. The contract came with a caveat: the client expected a uniformed team that was visually consistent, professionally presented, and clearly identifiable as the centre’s security operation rather than a generic security firm.
The security company had previously used off-the-shelf black clothing with stick-on printed badges — a stop-gap solution that looked exactly like what it was. To win and retain this contract, they needed a permanent, professional solution.
The Uniform We Built
The brief required a formal appearance with clear authority. We developed a workwear solution around three core garments: a black performance polo shirt with embroidered “SECURITY” text across the back in silver, and the company logo with client branding on the left chest; a black softshell jacket with matching embroidery for outdoor patrol duties; and a black fleece for static post work during colder months.
All embroidery was executed in silver-grey thread to maintain a consistent and authoritative visual identity. The shopping centre client’s name was incorporated into the left-chest design below the security company logo, creating a dual-branded garment that satisfied both parties.
The Client’s Response
The shopping centre operations manager confirmed at the first quarterly review that the new uniforms had “significantly improved the professional appearance of the security team and increased shopper confidence in the centre’s safety provision.” Two further retail units within the centre independently enquired about whether the security company took on smaller clients — prompted by the team’s appearance.
Renewed and Expanded Contract
The initial 12-month contract was renewed and expanded to cover two additional retail sites managed by the same group. The security company credited the uniform upgrade as one of the key factors in the renewal decision. “Our service was the same before and after. The difference was how we looked while delivering it.”
