Case Study: How a Family-Run Restaurant Chain Built Brand Identity Through Staff Uniforms

From One Restaurant to Five — Keeping the Brand Consistent

A family-owned restaurant group had grown from a single venue in 2018 to five sites across the North West by 2023. Growth was the good news. The challenge that came with it was brand consistency. Each new site had been launched with slightly different uniforms — different shades, different garments, different logo sizes. Returning customers noticed. New customers had no consistent visual experience connecting the venues.

The owners came to Customised Workwear with a clear brief: “We need every site to look identical. Same garments, same logo, same colours. When someone eats at our Manchester venue and then visits our Liverpool site, we want them to immediately know they’re at the same restaurant.”

The Approach: One Brand, Five Sites, Consistent Delivery

We developed a master garment specification that could be replicated across all five sites. The front-of-house uniform consisted of a classic black fitted polo with the restaurant’s signature copper-coloured embroidered logo on the left chest and the site name embroidered on the right chest. Kitchen staff received black chef whites with the same copper logo on the chest pocket.

The copper thread was the most technically challenging element. The brand’s signature copper tone had no direct thread equivalent. We tested three candidate threads on sample garments under the warm lighting typical of restaurant dining rooms, and the owners selected their preferred match in-person before we committed to full production.

All five sites received their uniforms within 15 business days, delivered site by site to simplify distribution.

What Changed After the Rollout

The most immediate feedback came from staff. Within two weeks of the new uniforms launching, the operations manager noticed that staff were taking more care of their uniform — hanging it properly, arriving neatly dressed rather than crumpled. “It sounds small,” she said, “but when the uniform looks premium, staff treat it like it’s premium.”

The second piece of feedback came from a surprise source: the restaurant’s Instagram page. Guest photographs featuring staff in the new uniforms performed significantly better than previous posts. The clean, consistent branding photographed beautifully and started generating organic engagement the brand hadn’t seen before.

The Ongoing Relationship

This client now runs quarterly reorders through a dedicated account with us. New starters are kitted out within five business days. Staff turnover — which is high in hospitality — is no longer a uniform management headache. The spec is saved, the artwork is digitised, and each reorder is simply a matter of confirming sizes.
