Pet Services Is a Competitive Market — Presentation Matters
A dog grooming salon in Surrey had been operating for four years when the owner started noticing a problem: she was competing directly with newer, more Instagram-friendly businesses that appeared more premium despite having been open for a fraction of the time. The work quality was equivalent — but the visual brand of the newer businesses was more polished.
“They looked like a premium grooming service,” she told us. “I had the skills and the experience, but I looked like I was working out of my garage. The new places coming in had matching aprons, branded t-shirts, the full look. I knew I needed to catch up.”
The Workwear Solution
We developed a branded workwear package for the owner and her two part-time groomers: premium black t-shirts with embroidered company name and a small paw-print logo detail in gold on the left chest; matching black grooming aprons with the same embroidery; and a branded hooded sweatshirt for colder months in the salon.
The colour choice was deliberate — black workwear in a grooming environment photographs beautifully against most dog coat colours and conceals fine hair effectively. The gold embroidery thread gave the brand a premium, luxury feel appropriate to the price point she was trying to establish.
The Business Impact
Within six months of updating her workwear, the owner had updated her salon’s social media with new photographs featuring the team in branded uniforms. Enquiries for new client bookings increased, and she reported a noticeable shift in the type of client enquiring — more questions about specific techniques and less price shopping. The premium visual brand was attracting premium clients.
“It’s wild how much difference a T-shirt makes. But the photos look completely different. The whole brand looks different. Clients think we charge more than we used to because we look like we should.”
