Caps Are the Most Visible Element of Any Outdoor Uniform
At eye level, a cap is the first thing people notice. For outdoor teams, tradespeople, and brands operating in physical environments, a branded embroidered cap is the highest-visibility piece in the workwear kit. Done well, it looks exceptional. Done poorly, it can undermine an otherwise strong uniform.
Which Cap Styles Work for Workwear
The 5-panel structured cap is the most common choice for trade and outdoor workwear — it holds its shape, provides good sun protection, and embroiders cleanly on the front panel. The 6-panel baseball cap in structured fabric is equally popular. Flat caps and beanie hats are better suited to seasonal and casual applications.
For embroidery, always choose a structured cap with a stiff front panel. Unstructured “dad caps” embroidery poorly — the soft front panel distorts under embroidery tension, creating a puckered appearance. We only recommend structured caps for logo embroidery for this reason.
Embroidery on Caps: What Works
Cap embroidery is an art form in itself. The curved surface of a cap requires a different hoop setup from flat garments, and the embroidery design needs to account for that curvature. Logos that work on flat garments sometimes need to be simplified or reformatted for cap placement.
Standard guidelines for cap embroidery: maximum width 7cm on the front panel, avoid very fine details that are difficult to read on the curved surface, and choose thread colours that contrast clearly with the cap colour.
Matching Caps to the Rest of Your Workwear
Caps should match the rest of your team’s workwear in colour and embroidery style. If your polo shirts are navy with white embroidery, your caps should be navy with white embroidery.
