Workwear for schools, colleges and education settings
Staff who are identifiable to pupils, parents and visitors, with different roles clearly distinguished.
Get a quote for schools and educationIn a school the uniform is a safeguarding tool as much as a branding one. Anyone on site should be able to tell a member of staff from a visitor at a glance, and pupils should be able to identify who to approach. That argues for clear, consistent staff clothing across the roles that are not already in their own professional dress.
The roles that usually need it are the ones that move around the site: site and premises teams, catering, cleaning, learning support, sports staff and office or reception. Teaching staff are normally in their own clothes, so the scheme has to work alongside that rather than pretending otherwise.
Catering is the part with a hard requirement attached. Kitchen clothing in a school is washed hot and inspected, so it wants to be specified like a commercial kitchen's rather than like general staff kit.
What this trade needs
Polo shirts
The general staff layer, colour-coded by department so roles are distinguishable.
Fleece or softshell
Site teams and anyone crossing a playground in winter.
Catering whites and aprons
Kitchen staff, specified for hot washing and inspection.
Tabards
Cleaning and lunchtime supervision, worn over normal clothing.
Hi-vis vests
Site teams, car-park duty and trips.
Sports kit
PE and sports coaching staff, branded consistently with everything else.
The standards that apply
These are garment standards, not site rules. A standard belongs to the individual item and its certificate — so when a garment is specified for you, the certificate is what proves it, not a line on a web page.
- EN ISO 20471
- High-visibility clothing, for car-park duty, site teams and off-site trips.
Settle this before you order
- Which departments are in uniform and which are not — the scheme has to work around teaching staff.
- Colour-coding by department, so a pupil or visitor can tell roles apart.
- Whether the school crest or a plain name is embroidered, and in how many colours.
- Whether catering is ordered to a commercial-kitchen specification, which it usually should be.
